Stop Snowflake apps nobody is using

An app on Snowflake keeps its compute up until you stop it, and Snowflake reports usage per account, not per app. So the first step is finding the apps nobody opens; the second is letting what they run on rest.

Find them

List every app and who used it in the last 30 days. The apps with no viewers are the candidates; their credits tell you which matter most.

Let the warehouse rest

A Streamlit app on the warehouse runtime uses its query warehouse. Make sure that warehouse suspends soon after the last query:

ALTER WAREHOUSE <app_warehouse> SET AUTO_SUSPEND = 60;

Switch apps off on a schedule, or when idle

Doing this by hand for every app does not last. StreamGen does it for the apps it runs, inside your account: apps switch off at a set time, such as 20:00 on workdays, or after a few hours without viewers, and start again by themselves when someone opens them. A monthly budget for the apps emails the admins at 80% and 100%, and every app’s cost is on the inventory.

It is a Snowflake Native App on the Snowflake Marketplace. Installing is free, and a free 7-day trial key starts when you activate it.
